Taking the Confusion Out of Home Security |
Porst has been helping keep people safe and secure for over two decades. While he has installed many systems that are very technical, he notes that security devices can be as complex or as easy as the consumer needs. “We tailor our systems to each customer. Some are very intricate, however, most are quite user friendly.”
While the main focus of Argus Security is security systems, they are often asked to help customers with a variety of low voltage wiring needs, including surround sound speakers, computer and telephone wiring. Because of this, they dedicate an entire sector of their business to this type of installation. “Many times we get called to install a security system and are asked to complete additional wiring needs. We are more than happy to help customers with these jobs.”
Porst finds that many people are unaware of everything that security systems offer. “When you say home security, many people think of burglar alarms, however it is so much more than that.” Argus installs systems that provide a wide array of home security functions. They can monitor a variety of home safety requirements, including temperature, carbon monoxide, water and smoke levels. “There is nothing that can’t be done, it really depends on how much the customer wants to invest,” Porst notes.
The security systems Porst installs send a signal to a 24-hour call center. Based on the type of signal, operators notify the appropriate party. Sometimes this call is directed to the customer’s cell phone or work number, while other more immediate emergencies, such as the detection of smoke or carbon monoxide, may necessitate a call to the police or fire department.
Meeting new people and educating them regarding home security systems is one of the best things about Porst’s job, however, he suggests that his job is so much more than that. “I know my job is worthwhile when I hear how someone benefited from my services.” He notes one recent, early morning fire in at a local business that was located below an apartment unit. “The fire broke out in a matter of minutes. If the security system did not detect smoke and contact the fire department, the residents who were asleep above the business would not have made it out of the building.”
His systems also service a practical purpose. One client found that the cleaning staff for his business was charging him for an extra hour of time. When he checked the records of when the system was logged on and off, it showed that the staff was not working as long as they indicated.
While Porst takes great joy in helping people keep their homes and businesses secure, he states that he would be perfectly happy if people did not need to utilize their system. “I am so happy that I am able to help keep them safe, but I really hope they never need to use the system. That would be the best scenario for everyone’s business.”
