Like all major cities across America, Portland has its share of crime. Above is a map based on FBI crime data to help you negotiate which areas are relatively more and less safe in this area. The Portland area is in the most dangerous 20% across the nation. The red shaded lights here indicate less safe parts of the metropolitan area. Showing 20 murders in a population of 542,174, this ranks the locale in the least safe 50% for murder across the nation. While Portland is not in the most dangerous 25% for murder of locations across the nation, there is certainly room for improvement, and the home security industry plays a vital role.
